Trauma Counseling

Experiencing trauma—whether from abuse, neglect, loss, or other painful events—can leave lasting effects on how you think, feel, and relate to others. Trauma often shows up in anxiety, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, trust issues, or feeling “stuck” in the past. But healing is possible. With the right support, you can move forward with hope and strength.

At Sycamore Counseling Services, we provide compassionate, evidence-based care for children, teens, and adults impacted by trauma. We understand that every story is unique, and we walk with you at a pace that feels safe.

What is Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)?

We use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a research-based approach proven to help individuals process trauma and regain control of their lives. TF-CBT combines cognitive and behavioral strategies with trauma-sensitive care to help you:

  • Understand how trauma affects thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

  • Develop skills to manage stress, anxiety, and strong emotions.

  • Process traumatic memories in a safe and supportive environment.

  • Strengthen coping skills and resilience.

  • Build healthier relationships and restore trust.

For children and teens, TF-CBT also involves parents or caregivers in the healing process, providing tools to support their child’s recovery at home.

Who Trauma Counseling Is For

Trauma counseling may be right for you or your child if you’re experiencing:

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories.

  • Emotional numbing, detachment, or difficulty trusting others.

  • Anxiety, depression, or sudden mood changes.

  • Avoidance of reminders of the trauma.

  • Behavioral challenges in children or teens related to past trauma.

A Safe Place for Faith and Healing

For many, trauma also impacts faith. You may wonder where God was, or how to reconcile your pain with your beliefs. At Sycamore Counseling Services, we offer space to process these questions without judgment. If desired, we integrate faith into your healing journey, allowing God’s truth and presence to be part of the recovery process. You or your child don’t have to carry the weight of trauma alone. Healing is a journey, and counseling can provide the tools, safety, and hope needed to move forward.
